Michelle Robinette, founder & director:
February 2005
Greetings from warm, sunny
Jamaica! Today and all last week, it was in the high 70s. We had breezes off
the ocean that were all over the island. The sea was rough, but beautiful as
it splashed on the rocks near the streets in MoBay.
The children had a wonderful
blessed Christmas because of all of you. We are still giving out some
presents as we just received some last week. The rest we will save for
birthday gifts. We also were able to treat the staff and children to the
best ham dinner I have ever tasted in my whole life – everyone asked for
more. So, thank you for making this memorable Christmas possible!
We have five homes almost ready
to take some of our children for foster care. A doctor and another woman
received a large grant to train foster parents. We are now trying to decide
which children should go. For the children who cannot be adopted for various
reasons, this will give them the experience of a home setting. The grant
money will also pay for many lessons such as tennis, music, and karate, if
desired. Shaquille and Peter will go for sure. Peter will get the speech
therapy he needs on a daily basis! Please pray with us that we make the
right matches for the right children.
The school on the property is
going well: you should hear our four-year olds read! They are really getting
it. Our older children go to Reading Prep up the hill and we are so thankful
that they can be there rather than at public school where they would be lost
in class sizes of 65 or more.
Pray for Shana-Kay as she is
still having problems off and on with her head being broken out. Ion is on
the brink of walking, but needs lots of one-on-one for that to happen, so
please keep him in your prayers, too. We have two new little ones who came
from Blossom Gardens that need surgery. Avion, a four-year old girl with a
hernia, and Dean, a three year old, who has a muscular problem with his left
eye and autism. Wade and Swade (our twins), Romaine, and Avalee (three year
old girl – Avion’s sister) will all start school in September! So we have 4
new faces at the Nest and the last is Sally – a two year old dolly. She has
scoliosis so her back is crooked, but she is delightful with a personality
like Christine.
For six days, we had a little
two-year old boy named Ricky with us. He had been in the hospital for one
year with brittle bone disease. One day he woke up ill and we took him to
the hospital where Jesus decided to take him to heaven and heal him
completely. We had so much fun with him here as he loved music and singing.
At least his last week on earth was preparation for his great life up there.
The babies are all growing up and
so fun and cute. Deonno smiles and crawls all over the house. Joy laughs and
is so good – she just waits in the morning until we get her – no complaining
until she is in the highchair and then she wants food NOW! All of them are
cutting teeth. Otarie can stand while holding on to something. Akeim and
Rondean are doing well – they spend their weekends with the Mennonites up
the hill who will soon be licensed for foster care.
Matthew had his first visit away
from the Nest during Christmas. He stayed with relatives on the island and
some who came from the United States. We never even knew he had them – and
they only just found out about Matthew, too. So he had a fun time, but is
worried about having to leave the Nest to go and live with them.
Other changes: Marc is with his
Mom now, as is Toni-Ann. Kowayne is at New Beginnings school, a private boys
home. Kaci-Anne and Romaine are also supposed to go with their dad for good
soon. We’ll see.
Blessings to all, may Christ
continue to be the center of all of our lives. May we all keep our eyes on
the Heavens and be ready for our Lord’s return.
His Servant,
Michelle Robinette
