Robin’s Nest
December 24th through December 31st
were not spent at home, with relatives, like normal. Ashley and Kaiti
and I all spent Christmas Eve flying and settling in at the beautiful
new Robin’s Nest. Waking up Christmas morning was filled with a renewed
sense of making the day special for the kids. We plugged in Christmas
lights that circled the upper walls of the main rooms…such a warm glow
at six in the morning. We brought down a CD of Bing Crosby’s Christmas
songs and played that in the background as kids woke one by one. We fed
them French toast for breakfast and then cleaned them all up and got
them dressed up for the holiday. The house went up a notch in volume as
they opened and enjoyed their gifts….new (toy) cell phones for all,
along with an outfit and another gift picked and wrapped just for them.
A local pastor and his wife came to the house to
help with lunch. I thought, oh how nice, the pastor is helping cook. I
was toting a baby on my hip and trying to find vegetables to make for
lunch. He offered to help. As I explained how to cook frozen
vegetables, I glanced at someone with a puzzled look on her face. As
soon as I walked away, I believe it was Michelle who said that it was so
nice to have the pastor in the kitchen on Christmas…..as he used to be a
chef on a cruise ship!! For a moment, I was embarrassed, but quickly
shook that off and started watching him work, carefully carving meat,
displaying food on trays and inventing the most wonderful sauces. We
all sang happy birthday to Jesus and finally enjoyed the fruit of the
pastor’s labor, followed by Jesus’ birthday cake. I do believe that is
the most incredible tasting Christmas meal I have ever had in my life!
Even though I missed being with relatives on
Christmas, I certainly felt I was with family. The other teams that
were down there at the same time were SUCH a blessing! During our week
there, the staff was on vacation, and we were honored to rise before the
sun, cook, feed, clean, pray and play every day, not settling in to bed
until after 10pm or so. Exhaustion never felt so good. Even though
exhausted, with wide awake babies in our laps, we enjoyed a couple of
late nights playing Skip-bo, UNO, and King’s Corners with Michelle. A
special batch of caramel corn and some Cheerios being passed around, and
all were entertained.
So much laundry. So many diapers. So many to
cook for. So many little repair projects around the house. So much
water to transport and vans to work on. There was something for
everyone to do…non-stop. God has led Michelle, and so many others, to
provide such a wonderful home for these children to be taken care of and
loved. The Nest still has a mortgage to meet this year and encourage
you to assess everything that God has given you to see if maybe He’s
given you enough to share. Help the vision of owning the new Robin’s
Nest home free and clear, come to reality.
Blessings to you all!
