Summer Greetings from Robin's Nest
|
STORM UPDATE
Hi friends of the Nest,
We are sure you are wondering
how things are at the nest after hurricane Gustav came through.
We were very fortunate in that it remained a tropical storm and
the worst damage was on the other side of the island. Our
hearts go out to them that lost homes and there were about 7
lives lost according to recent reports.
We did have some leakage in the house and
will need to repair the roof somehow and also clean up debris in
the yard. The staff was unable to get up here for a couple days
so had to have local staff come in extra so there were
definitely extra costs involved plus the roads just get worse
when storms like this come which is very hard on vehicles.
Gratefully, everyone stayed safe and well and we are so blessed
to have a generator to help in these difficult times. God is
good and we thank you for your prayer support.
Our thoughts and prayers are
with the U.S. now as it heads that way. Please remember the
island of Jamaica and us in our cleanup efforts. Any
contributions to help with extra costs are appreciated and with
the children going back to school, that also entails extra costs
with school uniforms and supplies. Your prayers and support are
always appreciated.

hopes and
prayers for the future. We are so grateful that you have taken the time to
visit our website. Be sure to visit each of the sections listed above.
Read our newsletters on the newsletter page, find out about our history on
“The Story” page, find out about the children on the “Children” page, and
see what opportunities of service there are for you from simply visiting a
website for our good (www.goodsearch.com)
or buying a cookbook, sponsoring a child or actually traveling to Jamaica to
volunteer. Email us also to become an email partner and keep updated with
what is happening at the Nest.
We are in a transition time at Robin's Nest now. After 11 years of
faithful service, Michelle is stepping down from the full-time head director
at the Nest and will be spending a little more time on American soil,
speaking at churches and getting out the story of Robin's Nest and her love
and concern for the children there. As a board, we stand amazed at all that
God has accomplished through her since 1997 when she first arrived in
Jamaica. He has given her strength beyond measure to face the difficulties
and pressures that come with directing a ministry in a third world
country. We are also most grateful for a young couple that has stepped
forward to go and commit themselves to be used of God in keeping the mission
of Robin's Nest going during the interim. To God be the glory for helping
in this transition.
The Nest is changing its’ looks practically daily as the boys’
dorm, “Jake’s House” continues to be built. The first 4 rooms are done and
being lived in and the second part, another 4 rooms, are about half done.
We are grateful to the many teams who have helped with this project. This
is a great opportunity for the older boys to have their own separate space
and also frees up a room in the main house for the older girls to have their
own space as well.

SURE TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR NOVEMBER 8, 2008,

Our Tribute
to Shantara
(C & J
Larson)
You were
someone
special
right from
the start
Your reached
out to us
and captured
our heart.
We couldn't
help but
fall in love
that day not
long ago
You were a
gift from
heaven
above, and
we often
told you so.
Though your
body was
weak, some
parts just
wouldn't
work
But your
determination
to try hard
was a real
perk.
You reached
out to
others with
your bright
eyes and big
smile
And heaven
has been
gladdened,
as you
explore mile
after mile.
You left
this earth,
we didn't
expect it at
all
But God's
plan was not
our plan,
that day you
answered His
call.
You have
seen Jesus
face to face
and you now
live in
that
heavenly
place
A place
prepared by
God Himself,
for His
chosen and
no one else.
Our lives
were
enriched
down through
the years,
we say
goodbye with
many tears
We'll see
you soon
only God
knows when,
there will
only be
smiles when
we're
reunited
again.
Shantara,
you are
loved by
many. Thank
you for just
being you!!

In 2006, we began a new program, “Sponsor a child.” We are so
grateful to the many of you who
have faithfully given to this
program which helps us to provide board and room for our children.
For only 50 cents a day or $15 a month, you can help the children of
Robin’s Nest. If you desire to be
a part of this program or want
more information, please fill in the area concerning it on the gift
form
(click
here for the gifting form). You are free to choose any of the
children listed on the
Children's Page. We are so grateful to have Cindy Anderson now
handling the sponsor a child program,
so please contact her at
canderson12@marykay.com.
Please note: We would like to do this program primarily by e-mail
and automatic deduction.
However, if you are unable to do this,
please do not hesitate to sign up.
